Concept...
The 38 meter wooden sailing yacht shown above is modeled after a privateer schooner, but makes use of modern lines as well as modern materials and equipment. For example steel spars and rigging are intended along with Dacron sails and line, plus all the conveniences of today's equipment options... In other words, a comfortable yacht with room for guests and crew.
Preliminary particulars are:
- 38 Meters (125') Length on Deck
- 34m (111.5') Waterline Length
- 10m (33') Moulded Beam
- 3.9m (12.8') Draft
- 320 Metric Tons Displacement (preliminary, depending on structure and outfit)
For the interior, the intent with this design is that the interior layout make it possible for the vessel to be used as a personal yacht for owner and guests. As such, the owner and guest accommodations are intended to be located aft, a large saloon and galley amidships, and the crew forward.
On deck forward will be a seating area. Amidships is a lounge and combination chart room / pilot house. An extension of the lounge aft on the poop deck is a steering station / cockpit. The aft deck is intended to be a large socializing area with wrap-around seating.
A traditional plank on frame hull, deck and house structure is intended. The spars are intended to be steel pipe and tube. This allows greater strength and a higher rig, with less weight than would have been possible with wooden spars. Three masts have been proposed in order that the sails can be more easily handled, and to reduce the stress on hull and rig, but to still allow plenty of sail area.
Although top hull speed is much greater, for long range under power, vessel speed will be in the neighborhood of 10 knots in order to achieve a target range under power of 4,000 nautical miles.
